The History of WXML Christian Radio
Daniel L. Kayser, founder of our radio ministry, assembled several friends together on February 26, 1987, at Nachbar Appliance in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss and explore the possibility of starting a new Christian Radio Station. The consensus of those in attendance was to proceed with the project. Our goals were:
On April 8, 1987, Dan Kayser called the FCC in Washington, DC to inquire about the proper procedures of initiating a “Frequency Search.” A good friend recommended that we hire Sterling Communications, Inc., in Chattanooga, TN., to begin our engineering studies and application.
On July 22, 1988, Dan Kayser called Sterling Communications regarding sending contracts for engineering studies. During this period, several individuals were asked to be officers and/or trustees of the new corporation which was formed to be the governing body of the organization. Sterling Communications performed a “Frequency Search” and found the 90.1 FM was available. Sterling Communications then filed for our “Application for Construction Permit.”
On August 16, 1990, we received our “Construction Permit” from the FCC which gave us authority to proceed with the building of our FM station. At this point, we were already in the building, cleaning it up, laying new carpet, acquiring desks, tables, chairs, cabinets etc. We acquired the transmitter, broadcast board, microphones and other associated broadcast equipment.
On December 26, 1992, we went on-the-air for the first time.
The station is currently broadcasting 24 hours a day. The corporation is being run under the guidelines of our Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws as approved by the State of Ohio.
It is the intention of the officers and members of the Board of Directors to raise funds for future expansion and additional equipment for greater quality of station operation. The station is supported through donations from its listeners, from churches who have taken WXML on as a mission and through businesses who sponsor blocks of broadcast time.
Our goal is to have 1,000 Christian families support us at $15.00 each month. Fund-raising takes place through our annual Sharathon during the first week in November and through our monthly newsletter which goes out to all who request it.
Since we went on-the-air December 26, 1992, Christians in the area have rallied and supported WXML Christian Radio through their prayers, letters and financial support. It is evident that they want Christian Radio in this part of Ohio.
In 2007, we erected a new 500 foot tower. On July 20, 2007, we increased our power from 3,000 watts to our new power level of 15,000 watts, making the radio ministry the strongest Christian FM station in all of Northwest Ohio. In preparation of our expected growth, in 2009, we put a much-needed third studio upstairs in our small building. Then in August of 2010, we completely remodeled our main broadcast studio which was 18 years old.
WXML is currently broadcasting to all or part of 23 counties with a potential listening audience of 750,000 individuals.
During 2008, we started using our new on-air name of NewVision.FM. This was because we knew that we were going to be blessed with more radio stations. Our second station, WXMF 91.9 FM in Marion, went on-the-air November 6, 2009 during our annual Sharathon. Our third station, WXMW 89.3 FM in Sycamore was dedicated on-the-air during our Sharathon on November 5, 2010.
Through God’s blessings of your continued prayers and financial support, you are helping us to change lives on a daily basis! YOU ARE THE TRUE HEARTBEAT BEHIND THE MINISTRY!
